From Sebago Lake, less than 20 miles northwest of Portland, the sparsely populated Western Lakes and Mountains region stretches north and west, bordered by New Hampshire and Québec. Each season offers different outdoor highlights: you can choose from snow sports, hiking, mountain biking, leaf peeping, fishing, swimming, and paddling. The Sebago Lake area bustles with activity in summer. Bridgton is a classic New England town, as is Bethel, in the valley of the Androscoggin River.
