Vieux Fort, on the southeastern tip of Saint Lucia, is the island's second-largest town (Castries, the only "official" city) and the location of Hewanorra International Airport, which serves all commercial jet aircraft arriving on and departing from the island.
Although less developed for tourism than the island's north and west, the area around Vieux Fort and points north along the east coast are home to some of Saint Lucia's unique ecosystems and interesting natural attractions. From the Moule à Chique Peninsula, the island's southernmost tip, you can see much of Saint Lucia to the north and the island of Saint Vincent 21 miles (34 km) to the south. This is where the waters of the clear Caribbean Sea blend with those of the deeper blue Atlantic Ocean.
