The many pale-colored buildings here are responsible for the nickname "White City," which is somewhat counter to the atmosphere here—hot, humid and dusty. Its other nickname is "City of the Sun" because temperatures here regularly hit the 30s C (90s F). Streets may be littered, buildings may be crumbling, but still some gems exist among the roughs, mainly the mostly undiscovered beaches to the south.
