Then in 2007 the Sox proved it wasn’t just a fluke with another series win, and yet again in 2013. In 2008 the Celtics ended its 18-year NBA championship drought with a thrilling victory over longtime rivals the LA Lakers. The six-time Stanley Cup Bruins and the five-time champion New England Patriots have proved that they are forces to be reckoned with.
Bostonians’ long-standing fervor for sports is equally evident in their leisure-time activities. Harsh winters keep locals wrapped up for months, only to emerge at the earliest sign of oncoming spring. Once the mercury tops freezing and the snows begin to melt, Boston’s extensive parks, paths, woods, and waterways teem with sun seekers and athletes—until the bitter winds bite again in November, and that energy becomes redirected toward white slopes, frozen rinks, and sheltered gyms and pools.
