Just below the Civic District is a group of quays running along the Singapore River. Once the center of commercial Singapore, this area hummed with energy from bumboats that transported goods to and from its warehouses along the water. Now, Clarke Quay and Boat Quay are best visited at night, when herds of partygoers descend on the area. The more laid-back Robertson Quay neighborhood is good for weekend brunch or a riverside run. A river cruise on a bumboat is a good way to get another perspective on this busy area. Use the Clarke Quay MRT station stop on the North East Line (purple) to get here.
