Ant...e Americas
Since 2008, Scenic has built its reputation on river cruises, and Scenic Eclipse is the line’s first ocean vessel. Hailed by Scenic as The World’s First Discovery Yacht, the ultra-luxury, Polar Class 6 ship was launched and christened by its godmother, Dame Helen Mirren, in 2019.Read More
Marrying opulence and strength, Scenic Eclipse offers ten decks of lavish accommodations and convivial gathering spaces surrounded by expedition-ready technology. The ship boasts electronic, Azipod propulsion, oversized, zero-speed stabilizers, a GPS Dynamic Positioning system, a wastewater treatment system, and a Comfort Class 1 notation for reduced noise and vibration. Did we mention the pair of sleek, Airbus H130-T2 helicopters and the six-passenger submarine? Scenic Eclipse has those, too. Itineraries are categorized as Expedition, Discovery, or Cruise, based on the degree of active adventure involved, and the ship sails on linear journeys, with the exception of Antarctica, where it spends the entire season.
An all-inclusive pricing system makes Scenic Eclipse a “wallet-free zone,” where passengers enjoy butler service, a posh spa, a dazzling array of dining and bar options, and a range of shore excursions. The ship’s décor is dark, sophisticated, and yacht-chic, with contemporary furnishings and smoky shades of black mingling with mirrored surfaces to create a glamorous atmosphere.
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
What to expect on board
Staterooms & Cabins
All 114 suites have separate sleeping and lounge areas, with sliding glass doors opening onto private verandas where guests can whale-watch with their in-room binoculars. Thanks to enhanced sound insulation, each suite is a quiet oasis of calm. Plush robes are perfect for cuddling up on the sofa and watching the extra-large HDTV with Bose speakers. In-room refreshments include Illy coffee and specialty tea, plus a minibar that’s refilled daily by a personal butler who supplies each guest’s favorite drinks. Spacious, marble-tiled bathrooms feature high-end fixtures and fittings from Gessi and Laufen, with luxury ESPA bath products and Dyson hairdryers.
Scenic Eclipse has sleep down to a science. Every category of suite offers Scenic Slumber Beds with electronic position controls and a mattress with an AIR Wave® ventilation band, lumbar inlays, a seven-zone core, and ergonomic shoulder zones. 600-thread-count, long-staple cotton bed linens are topped with a German-crafted duvet stuffed with 90% down and 10% feathers. A mind-boggling pillow menu features six options, including an “anti-ageing ladies’ pillow” and “EcoHealthLab organic spelt pillow with lavender and rose petals.”
Even the simplest suites are sumptuous, including the veranda, deluxe veranda, and grand deluxe veranda (with walk-in closet), which range in size from 344 to 430 square feet.
Twelve spa suites (measuring 495 to 538 square feet) feature double-sized spa tubs designed by Philippe Starck and vitality mist showers equipped with chromo light therapy. Each spa suite comes with a complimentary one-hour spa treatment, laundry service, priority dining and shore excursion access, along with VIP embarkation and disembarkation status.
Panorama and grand panorama suites (sized between 1,130 and 1,184 square feet) are placed in a privileged position overlooking the ship’s bow. They each have an expanded private terrace, a spacious lounge and dining area with a table that seats four, and a large bathroom with a tub, vitality shower, and dual vanities.
Two owner’s penthouse suites (2,045 – 2,099 square feet) on deck 9 provide over-the-top amenities including an eight-person dining table, 70-inch HDTV, in-suite library, an extra powder room in addition to a luxurious main bathroom, and an oversized terrace with a private hot tub, daybed, and seating area. If that’s not big enough, one of the owner’s penthouse suites can be combined with a spa suite to make a 2,637-square-foot, two-bedroom penthouse suite. These suites also come with a host of VIP perks and priority access upgrades for guests.
Scenic Eclipse is equipped with elevators, but there are no accessible cabins, and all passengers need to be able to walk on and off the ship. Use of a portable wheelchair on board is permitted.
Food & Drink
Despite the ship’s small size, there’s a broad spectrum of dining options to delight passengers. Meals at all of Scenic Eclipse’s eight restaurants, plus 24-hour room service, are included in the cost of the cruise, and chefs strive to integrate local ingredients from destinations where the ship docks.
Elements is the main restaurant, serving Italian specialties, seafood, and steak. The breezy Yacht Club is a casual buffet that’s open at breakfast and lunch, with indoor-outdoor dining and whimsical swinging chairs for barefoot lolling. The Azure Bar and Café is a cozy place for a laid-back breakfast, lunch, or after-dinner bite. Koko’s is an upscale Asian Fusion restaurant that includes a traditional sunken dining area, with Sushi @ Koko’s offering fresh and inventive plates right next door. The Night Market is a tiny dining room tucked behind Koko’s, where a chef prepares a changing menu of exquisite dishes inspired by themes (such as Indian, Middle Eastern, Asian) with the help of a Teppanyaki grill. Lumière is an elegant choice for contemporary French cuisine, with a multi-course dinner menu and wine pairings. The invitation-only Chef’s Table is a private group dining experience that allows the head chef’s culinary artistry to come out and play, combining a spectacular tasting menu with fine wines selected by the sommelier.
For avid foodies, small-group cooking and wine-tasting master classes (Scenic Epicure) are also offered periodically throughout each voyage.
With a total of nine bars and lounges, Scenic Eclipse has a spot for every style of sipping. All drinks are included in the price of the cruise, with the exception of a few rare and vintage wines, and in-room mini-bars are regularly replenished by the ship’s attentive team of personal butlers.
Glowing with rows of amber-hued whiskey bottles (a whopping 135 different varieties), the Scenic Lounge Bar is a popular meeting place on deck 4. The outdoor Panorama Bar on deck 10’s Observation Terrace offers cocktails for the hot tub and cabana crowd, while the Yacht Club Bar mixes drinks for its restaurant patrons, and Koko’s Sake Bar offers Japanese selections. For a pop of French style, Lumière has its own bubbly Champagne Bar. To while away an afternoon at sea, there’s also a tea bar in Deck 5’s Observation Lounge. Passengers can choose their favorite blend of Kusmi Tea, join friends for a board game, read a book from the library, or peer through a Swarovski telescope.
Entertainment
Scenic Eclipse’s theater has rows of generously proportioned power recliners for true laid-back luxury. Nightly, high-energy performances by the ship’s two resident singers showcase familiar tunes ripe for sing-alongs, including music from Motown, ABBA, Bruce Springsteen, and Frank Sinatra. In some ports, guest entertainers come on board for special performances that highlight local traditions. Naturalists from the ship’s Discovery Team offer enrichment lectures and nightly talks recapping each day’s explorations.
Other daily entertainment options might include trivia contests, Critter Club meetings to discuss recent wildlife sightings, or a ship-wide Scavenger Hunt. A pianist sets a mellow mood in the lounge each evening.
For a captain’s eye view, passengers are encouraged to visit the ship’s high-tech open bridge. There’s even a comfy seating area to settle in for a chat with the crew or a bird-watching session with a naturalist.
Spa & Fitness
The 5,920 square-foot Senses Spa offers a hair and beauty salon, separate women’s and men’s steam rooms, saunas, cold plunge pools, and relaxation areas with heated chairs. Sun loungers join a small Vitality Pool on the outdoor Spa Terrace. For an additional fee, passengers can indulge in a full menu of spa treatments that include a variety of massage techniques, body treatments (try the Essential Marine Cocoon for a slather of marine clay and mud), facials, nail services, and even healing sessions using Tibetan Singing Bowls.
The small but mighty POWER: Gym is equipped with elliptical and rowing machines, treadmills, free weights, and other workout gear. The PURE: Yoga and Pilates Studio offers a tranquil environment with mats, cushions, and crystals. Group classes are available for free, and personal training sessions—focusing on fitness, yoga, aerial yoga, Pilates, or meditation—are available at an extra cost.
Two hot tubs are located on the Sun Deck, where passengers can also relax in private cabanas with day beds. The ship doesn’t offer a full-size swimming pool.
A specially designed marina allows for easy boarding of Zodiacs for shore excursions, or kayaks and paddleboards when permitted. E-bikes are also available for the guests to use in some destinations.
Key cruising tips
Health & Safety
Scenic strongly recommends, but does not require, COVID-19 vaccination prior to embarkation. However, guests must comply with any local health guidelines and restrictions in destinations they will visit on the cruise. All crew members are vaccinated. Scenic’s enhanced onboard health protocols include contact-free check-in and check-out, hand sanitizing stations throughout the ship, intensified cleaning procedures, fresh air circulation systems, and modified food and beverage service that reduces social contact.
Dress Code
The dress code is “casual and comfortable” for daytime, with “smart casual” suggested for evening. Shorts are not acceptable at dinner, and athletic clothing and swimwear are suitable for gym and pool areas only. Evening jackets and ties are recommended, but not required, for men.
Junior Cruisers
Children aged 12 and older are welcome on the Scenic Eclipse. However, there are no special menus, activities, or amenities specifically geared toward kids.
Service
On-board service is excellent, with friendly and professional staff in the bars, restaurants, spa, and small boutique. Problem-solving personal butlers cater to every passenger’s needs—from booking helicopter and dinner reservations to making sure your favorite single malt is waiting in your suite.
Tipping
Tips and gratuities, including tours and shore excursions, are covered by Scenic Eclipse’s all-inclusive package pricing, creating what they refer to as a “wallet-free zone.”
