The largest city on the gorgeous volcanic island of Pulau Weh, just over 14 km (9 miles) northwest of Sumatra, is surrounded by pristine coral reefs, making for spectacular diving and snorkeling. Though the 2004 tsunami destroyed much of the coral on the west side, the east—especially Rubiah Island—remains unspoiled, with lovely undeveloped beaches and amazing sea life.
