On the easternmost tip of Brunei, Muara is the country's only deepwater port and an important support for its offshore drilling operations. The town was historically a fishermen's' town until the 19th-century, when it reached its heyday as a coal-mining center. Nowadays, Muara's long, white-sand beaches and turquoise waters are its biggest attraction.
