Besides its proud status as the paprika capital of the world, colorful Kalocsa is most famous for its vividly hued folk embroideries and flowered porcelains. Like Esztergom, Kalocsa was founded by King Stephen in 1001 as one of two bishopric seats (later elevated to archbishopric). One of Hungary's oldest towns, Kalocsa is still an important religious center, as evidenced by its two standout buildings: the Archbishop's Palace and the Baroque Kalocsa Cathedral.
