Thanks again to everyone for their input. My trip is shaping up nicely. My draft itinerary so far:

Mid-April: Fly to CDMX. Land around noon, and spend 5 nights there. Looking for a hotel in the La Condesa area after reading trip reports about this neighborhood.

ADO Bus to Puebla. Stay in Puebla for 3 nights. I have arranged the itinerary so I can experience the Sunday market there, highly recommended by some of you.

ADO Bus to Oaxaca. Stay by the Zocalo for 6 nights. Take private Spanish lessons for 2 hours a day.

Fly to CDMX. Stay at the Gran Hotel Ciudad the México for 3 nights, to get a flavor of the historic center.

Fly back home May 3.

Any thoughts/suggestions welcome!

My only tweak might be to take the bus (I believe there's one from the airport) on arrival to Puebla for your days there at the beginning, on to Oaxaca, then have all your Mexico City days at the end. I like longer stays to settle in, so 8 nights without moving cities sounds good to me. It also saves you 1 move so less relocation time, more fun time.

It sounds like an excellent itinerary. We've done what Mm suggested, and while it's not a bad thought, it makes for a really long first travel day. I think what I like about your plan, that is, staying in both Condesa & Centro, is that, as I've mentioned before, you get to experience both the hip & historic of CDMX. We recently stayed at the Gran Hotel. It's pretty cool. We had a Zócalo view room. I also really like the idea of taking Spanish classes for 2 hours a day. Still gives you plenty of time to sight-see and enjoy the city and surrounds, but lets you the get out & about and use what you're learning without being exhausted from long days in class. Language learning & travel can be very rewarding.

Thank you both. I will stick to my itinerary for all the reasons bald0ne listed, plus the Sunday market in Puebla.

A quick update: at the last minute my husband decided to go with me, so I am solo no more😊. We are in CMDX right now, and soon will be in Puebla. I will post a trip report when we return home! Thanks again everyone!
