There is a Madrid Canaries cuisine restaurant of the same name, Gofio by Cícero, in the Barrio de las Letas (just lost its Michelin star and is moving to a new location in the spring).

I'll have to look for gofio in/on Lanzarote! Will look up recipes online and see if I can buy some to cook and sample..I'd never heard of this food before!

Schlemm: Do you spend time in south Florida? I'd love to learn some restaurant/food market recommendations from you. I am in Palm Beach County for much off the winter. Miami is far for me to drive, but if you know of anything else, maybe in Broward or PBC, do let me know!

ekscrunchy,
In addition to gofio, there are papas arrugás con mojo picón, sancocho (a dish that immigrants took to the Caribbean, to Dominican Republic and to Venezuela) etc.

Here's a list of typical Canaries dishes

I was just in Boca (as well as in Miami for Art Basel). Tons of interesting things to eat in Miami. In Boca, not so much. Then again, I am staying with folks who do not have the same food priorities as I do. So most places we go are either Cheesecake Factory or wannabe CF. Prezzo (I believe they are also located in PB) serves a whole roasted head of garlic with their bread service and I quite adored their rigatoni...... small sample size.

For gofio, I made a strong vegetable stock with carrots, onion, celery, and herbs. I then made a porridge with the stock and added some pan fried lardons/pancetta. That was the recipe. I am not sure what is available on Lanzarote.....

This is Lanzarote's recipe for gofio
https://www.lanzarote.com/en/blog/ca...-gofio-recipe/

You'll find it on the menu at César Lanzarote, one of the top restaurants on the island.

Maribel, thank you! I'm so glad you mentioned Cesar, as I never would have found the restaurant myself. My initial searches turned up only an Italian restaurant in Costa Teguise!! I really wondered about that since you had recommended the place!!! But finally did find the restaurant, located at a hotel of similar name, just outside Puerto del Carmen, and I've marked it. Both the restaurant, and the hotel (!) sound great. Thank you again!!
