To rent a car or not - That is the question....

Hello, all. My family and I plan to use Luquillo as a home base to explore the northeast of Puerto Rico. We're a family of six and I was wondering if this can be done without a rental? Thanks!

Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous misfortunes of hoping for a taxi for six,
Or to take matters into your own hands and rent a car, against a sea of troubles driving navigating, parking....

I'd probably rent myself, unless others can tell you that 6 person taxis are readily available...

Almost all of the taxi companies do have 6-passenger vans. Whether you'd prefer booking each journey to get a van or drive yourself -- only you can decide that.

We have stayed in Luquillo, but had friends who live in PR who drove us around.
As stated above, how comfortable are you driving in places you don't know?
Traffic in San Juan is terrible, but in the Luquillo area it's not as bad. However, people don't always stop for red lights or stop signs!
We never had to use a taxi so I can't help you there.
