It’s about time you booked a ticket to paradise.
There’s no shortage of things to do in Hawaii, one of our favorite destinations on the 2019 Go List, and now is the ideal time to experience some of its best areas: Kona and the Big Island.
Save big by flying round-trip from the following U.S. options to Kailua-Kona (KOA), located on Hawaii’s Big Island: San Diego ($294), Seattle ($300), Los Angeles ($357), San Francisco ($318), Dallas ($439) and Phoenix ($473).
What to See
How often do you get to see a volcano? If your answer is, “often,” well, good for you. If not, (I’m banking on most of you saying “not often!”), this flight deal is the perfect opportunity to do so. While the Kilauea Volcano did awake on the Big Island in May 2018, it’s still possible for you to experience its beauty (from a distance). See its lava from the water via one of two tourist companies–Kalapana Cultural Tours and Lava Ocean Adventures–or check it out from above with a breathtaking helicopter tour through Paradise Helicopters, which flies out of Kona. Later, you can cool off with a dip in the gorgeous waters (complete with plenty of stunning coral gardens) off of Kona’s coast. We’re also big fans of an afternoon Kona coffee tour, where you can indulge in some of the smoothest joe on the planet.

Where to Stay
There’s plenty of wonderful accommodations in paradise, aka Big Island, but a few of our favorites include the Fairmont Orchid Hawaii and Volcano House. The former comes complete with private spa waterfall huts (what!), tropical gardens, and a 10,000-square-foot swimming pool. Oh, also each guest room has a private balcony that allows for breathtaking ocean views. The latter, Volcano House, is Hawaii’s oldest hotel. Located in Volcanoes National Park, the property is recognized for its promotion of local culture and locally-sourced restaurants–if you’re seafood fanatic, the seasoned-to-perfection catch of the day should not be missed. The rustic rooms are draped in artisan-crafted decor and it won’t be hard to get comfortable after a full day of exploring the Big Island’s tropical environment.
