Dempsey Hill first served as British Army barracks, then as a local military base. These days, it’s a place to see and be seen—a refurbished enclave filled with tropical trees and some of the city’s best restaurants, bars, and lifestyle shops, many of them in restored, black-and-white, 19th-century colonial houses. Nearby, you'll find Holland Village, Singapore’s best-known expat district, with many terraced homes remaining from the British Army before World War II.
