The distinctive property, directly across from Museumplein, repurposes a former music conservatory, framing the four-story structure with a soaring glass-and-steel atrium that houses the hotel's centerpiece lobby lounge and brasserie. Italian architect and interior designer Piero Lissoni is behind the stunning design; he infused the decor with unexpected splashes of color, but the overall impression is sleek and modern. Local fashion designers, artists, and professionals take appointments in the lobby, meet for cocktails in the buzzy bar, and dine in the trendy Taiko restaurant.

Room
Rooms are minimalist with a twist, with brushed-oak flooring, beige furniture, and fall color accents. Lissoni has cleverly contrasted the old with the new and allowed for plenty of natural light. Complimentary newspapers, water and fruit, luxury linens, private bars, Samsung wide-screen TVs and Nespresso coffee makers come standard.
Tip There are a few internal rooms overlooking the atrium, so if you find an outside view important, remember to ask for it.
Bathroom
Beautiful bathrooms with polished beige limestone feature Japanese-style baths and large walk-in rain showers, plus luxe amenities, like super soft micro-cotton towels and built-in LCD mirror TVs so you can catch the morning news while you shave or do your make-up (yes, really!)

Lobby
With design furniture from Living, Divani, Kartell and Cassina juxtaposed with vintage Asian rugs and the clean lines of that awesome atrium, Piero Lissoni’s lobby is one to see and be seen at. In fact, local fashion designers, artists, and professionals take appointments here, after which they meet for cocktails in the buzzy bar, or dine in trendy Taiko restaurant. If there’s live music – and there often is – it’s courtesy of the students at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, the biggest Academy of Music in the Netherlands, which was formerly housed here.

In addition to a wide range of massages and some of the city’s finest facials (some with relaxing virtual reality mindfulness videos), award-winning Akasha Holistic Wellbeing Center is best-known for its hydro treatments, with individual cabins for purifying hammam treatments and the city’s only private Watsu pool, where Shiatsu and meditation techniques are combined with custom water-based treatments.

A spacious basement gym offers all the amenities, with equipment from Life Fitness and Kinesis Personal from Technogym, and there are a personal trainer and a yoga room too.
Dining
Celebrated Dutch chef Schilo van Coevorden is responsible for the all-day dining and high teas at The Brasserie & Lounge in the atrium area, and by night can be found in the kitchen at trendy Taiko, where his love of contemporary Asian flavors shines through.
Drinking
You can also enjoy classic or creative cocktails, drinks, and bites at stylish Tunes Bar with its transparent back-lit bar.

Sustainable seafood specialist, The Seafood Bar (2-minute walk), offers smoked fish varieties from Volendam, delicately-battered fish and chips, four varieties of oyster and platters of fruits de mer. There are many Italian eateries in Amsterdam, but few are as chic and accomplished as Ferilli’s Ristorante (10-minute walk), where elegant Italian staples are served on pristine plates by Executive Chef Donatella Zampoli (ex-Mas del Saugo, ex-Cantinetta Antinori) and there’s a great terrace for cocktails, too.
