Internet and Wi-Fi

Getting online in Paris is rarely a problem because free or pay-as-you-go Wi-Fi (pronouncedwee-fee) is widely available. Many hotels offer business services with Internet access or high-speed wireless access; and most accommodations offer in-room Wi-Fi at no extra charge. Moreover, Paris has made a big push in going wireless in recent years with 260 sites furnished by the city where you can connect for free in parks, squares (like the Centre Pompidou plaza), and libraries; look for the "Paris Wi-Fi" logo. Access is free and unlimited for anyone (select the Paris_Wi-Fi network and launch your browser). Many cafés offer free Wi-Fi , but verify before ordering a drink. McDonald's has free Wi-Fi spaces (sometimes disabled during peak dining hours), as do the 56 Starbucks outlets. Note that you may pick up a signal for "Free Wi-Fi," but this is the name of a French Internet provider, and you have to pay to use it. To charge your devices, don't forget to bring along an adapter with a European-style plug.
