The A6–A7 toll road from Paris, known as the Autoroute du Soleil—the Highway of the Sun—takes you straight to Provence, dividing at Orange, 659 km (412 miles) from the capital; the trip can be done in a fast six or so hours. After Orange, the A7 continues southeast to Marseille, on the coast; the A9 heads west to Nîmes, while the A8 carries on to Aix-en-Provence and then to the Côte d'Azur and Italy.
