A standard outside cabin has (at least) a picture window or porthole, but increasingly on newer, more modern ships, a majority also have balconies big enough for a small table and two chairs.

Larger

These cabins can range in size from a snug 120 square feet to a more comfortable 180 square feet. When you look at your cabin’s dimensions realize that the stateroom size usually include the dimensions of any balcony.

Outside cabins may accommodate two or more passengers. If there’s room for a 3rd or 4th person, you may find a pull-out sofa in the sitting area, or there may be a pull-down bunk in the wall or even one that comes down from the ceiling. There may also be a floor-to-ceiling curtain that can be drawn from wall to wall to separate the bed from the sitting area, which will become the second sleeping area.

Most standard staterooms have two twin beds can be joined together to create one large bed, the equivalent of a queen- or king-size bed with a separate sitting area of some kind. Bathrooms in all regular cruise cabins are compact, but most standard cabins have just a shower. Higher-category cabins may have a tub/shower combination.
