Q&A
Why do you travel?
It was initially only to visit my family and friends that are spread all over the world. Now when I travel, it’s a way to decompress within the present moment, but without the everyday normalities and stressors in the way.
What’s one thing you never travel without?
A translation app on my phone. Some of my friends and family do not speak English or are too shy to. The app I use lets us speak to each other and gives us a translation to read back and forth.
City or country?
City for the most part. It makes me feel more comfortable when I am surrounded by diverse people.
Do you like traveling solo?
It is so peaceful to travel solo. It makes me stay present with where I am and who I am at that moment. Sometimes the mind can get stuck in the past or future. It feels good to independently appreciate where you are.
Train, plane, or ship?
Trains. It is the most calming way to travel.
What is your favorite book?
“The Beautyful Ones Are Not Yet Born” by Ayi Kwei Armah. It is a difficult read, yet it is a perspective-altering experience.
What is your favorite time of year to travel?
Spring! Flights are usually cheaper and the weather is always amazing.
If you could take a 3-month sabbatical, where would you go?
I would travel all over Africa. I would love to spend time in Senegal, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Rwanda, and so many more.
